Biography

Akash Muralidharan is a film composer based in Tamil Nadu, India, specialising in narrative-driven and emotionally focused scoring.

His journey into music began at a young age through arranger keyboard, but his connection to film scoring developed later through a deep interest in storytelling and the psychological impact of music. While traditional academic paths did not resonate with him, music became a singular focus — a discipline that combined structure, emotion, and meaning.

His perspective on film music is rooted in its ability to shape how audiences feel and understand a story. Rather than simply supporting visuals, he composes to reveal subtext, enhance emotional depth, and reinforce the psychological experience of a scene.

He is currently studying at The Music School Bangalore (RSL Level 5), having progressed through portfolio-based advancement, and continues to develop his practice in composition and production

Approach

Akash approaches film scoring through detailed narrative analysis and emotional interpretation. Each project begins with repeated viewing of the visual material, allowing him to understand the intent behind the scene and the emotional direction of the story. He begins composing at the piano, focusing on melody and thematic ideas before expanding into orchestration and sound design. This process allows the music to grow naturally from the core emotional idea rather than from preset sounds or templates. His work is structured around three key functions of music in film: emotional psychology, subtext, and physical enhancement. By focusing on these elements, the music is designed not only to support the visuals but to deepen the audience’s understanding of the scene. His style combines orchestral writing with electronic elements, using hybrid instrumentation to represent both human emotion and the underlying systems or environments within a narrative
